Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson 2-0 at World Beach Volleyball Championship

Canadian Olympic silver medalists Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes of Toronto, Ontario are now at two wins and zero losses at the 2025 World Beach Volleyball Championships in Adelaide, Australia. On Sunday, the elite Canadian duo, who won silver together at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, defeated Katja Stam and Raisa Schoon of the Netherlands 21-15, 24-22 to improve to two wins and zero losses.

The first set Canada was in control throughout. However in the second set, they got a much stiffer test from the Netherlands. The Canadians had numerous opportunities to win the set, but the Netherlands did a great job in continuing the match. Canada won the match on the 46th point in the set.

In Canada’s win over the Netherlands, Wilkerson had 24 points (20 attack points and four block points), while Humana-Paredes had 11 points (10 attack points and one ace). Wilkerson was considered by the world feed commentators throughout the match as one of the best female blockers in beach volleyball in the world today.

Canada next plays Clemence Vieira and Aline Chamereau of France at 3:30 AM MT on Sunday. With the win, Canada finishes in first place in Pool J. France has a record of one win and one loss. They lost to the Netherlands, and then beat Monaco.
