Megan Oldham of Newmarket, Ontario won a silver medal for Canada in women’s slopestyle skiing at the 2023 World Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships in Bakuriani, Georgia. It was Canada’s fifth medal of the Championships to date. The only nation with more is Switzerland with eight medals.

Oldham posted a score of 87.75 points. Mathilde Gremaud of Switzerland won the gold medal with 87.95 points. Johanne Killi of Norway won the bronze medal with 84.71 points. Oldham reached the podium comfortably by 22.14 points. Sarah Hoefflin of Switzerland was in fourth place with a score of 65.61 points.

In displaying a remarkable degree of consistency throughout the championships, Oldham got better as the event went along. She began the World Championship with a qualification score of 77.55 points. That was followed by a qualification score of 79.65 points. That was the third best score heading into the final. Then in the final, Oldham had a first run score of 80.88 points. Oldham’s first run performance would also have been good enough to reach the podium.

Oldham reached the podium in Georgia despite the fact that the qualifying rounds were postponed twice due to inclement weather according to CBC Sports. She initially won the bronze medal in women’s slopestyle skiing at the 2021 World Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships in Aspen, Colorado. The silver medal will give Oldham confidence as she prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
