
The Medicine Hat Tigers are in the 2025 Memorial Cup in Rimouski, Quebec. On Friday, the Tigers defeated the Spokane Chiefs 4-2 in the fifth game of the Western Hockey League Finals. With the victory, the Tigers won the best out of seven series four games to one. Medicine Hat was very effective in Spokane as they won all three games on the road.
The Tigers were led in game five by left winger and assistant captain Hunter St. Martin of Edmonton, Alberta and defenseman Jonas Woo of Winnipeg. Manitoba. St. Martin, a draft pick of the Florida Panthers, had one goal and one assist for two points. Woo, a draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets, had two assists. The other three Tigers goal scorers were defenseman Niilopekka Muhonen, Gavin McKenna of Whitehorse, Yukon, and assistant captain and defenseman Bryce Pickford of Chauvin, Alberta. Muhonen is a draft pick of the Dallas Stars, and Pickford is drafted by the Seattle Kraken.
Medicine Hat only lost two postseason games. In addition to losing game two of the WHL Final to the Chiefs, they lost game three of the first round to the Swift Current Broncos. Medicine Hat swept the Prince Albert Raiders in round two and the Lethbridge Hurricanes in round three.
This is Medicine Hat’s sixth Ed Chynoweth Cup. They previously won in 1973, 1987, 1988, 2004 and 2007.
