Max Parrot of Cowansville, Quebec has won Canada’s first gold medal at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. On Sunday night in Canada (Monday afternoon in Beijing), Parrot won the Olympic men’s slopestyle snowboarding competition. Parrot in fact won one of two medals for Canada in men’s slopestyle snowboarding. The other medal was won by Mark McMorris of Regina, Saskatchewan, who won bronze.
Parrot posted a score of 90.96 points to take gold. Yiming Su of China (my pick to win gold) won the silver medal with 88.7 points. McMorris won the bronze medal with 88.53 points. Parrot earned a medal by 7.71 points over fourth place finisher Red Gerard of the United States, who won the gold medal in men’s slopestyle snowboarding at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. Fascinatingly, Parrot and McMorris also reached the Olympic podium four years ago too in men’s slopestyle snowboarding as Parrot won the silver medal and McMorris won the bronze medal. McMorris also won the bronze medal in the men’s slopestyle snowboarding competition at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
Canada now has four medals at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. They have one gold medal, one silver medal and two bronze medals. Parrot and McMorris will also be Olympic medal contenders in men’s big air snowboarding on February 15. McMorris and Parrot finished 1-2 respectively in big air at the 2021 World Snowboarding Championships in Aspen, Colorado, and Parrot is the 2021 World Cup champion in men’s big air snowboarding.
