Martin Jones records fourth shutout in Seattle Kraken history

Martin Jones of North Vancouver, British Columbia notched the fourth shutout in Seattle Kraken history on Thursday. He made 22 saves as the Kraken defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-0 at Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Jones made four saves in the first period, 12 saves in the second period, and six saves in the third period. It was Jones’s 26th National Hockey League shutout, and first for the Kraken. He has 18 shutouts with the San Jose Sharks and seven with the Los Angeles Kings.

This was the first Kraken shutout of the 2022-23 NHL season. The other three came last year. Philipp Grubauer had two shutouts and Chris Dreidger of Winnipeg, Manitoba had one shutout. Dreidger’s shutout last season came in a 3-0 Seattle won over the Sharks on April 29, 2022.

On the season, Jones has a record of five wins, three regulation losses and one loss in extra time. He has a goals against average of 2.69 and a save percentage of .893.

Seattle meanwhile is tied with the Edmonton Oilers for second place in the Pacific Division. Both teams have 14 points. Seattle has also won three straight games. In addition to blanking the Wild, the Kraken beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1 last Saturday, and then the Calgary Flames 5-4 on Tuesday.
