Mark Scheifele named NHL first star of the week

Winnipeg Jets centre Mark Scheifele of Kitchener, Ontario is the National Hockey League First Star of the Week from March 2-8, 2026. In three games, Scheifele had three goals and five assists for eight points. He was also a +6 with two game-winning goals, one power-play point, 16 hits, two hits, two blocked shots, and 28 faceoff wins.

Scheifele had multi-point games in all three Jets games, which were all wins. He had one goal and two assists for three points in a 3-2 Jets win over the Chicago Blackhawks on March 3, one goal and one assist for two points in a 4-1 Jets win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on March 5, and one goal and two assists for three points on March 7 in a 3-2 Jets win over the Vancouver Canucks.

Scheifele’s most significant point was an overtime winner in the Jets win over Chicago. Scheifele scored his 28th goal of the season at 2:06 of the extra period from defenseman Dylan Samberg. Scheifele followed that up with a game-winning goal in a Jets upset win over Tampa Bay. Scheifele scored from Alex Iafallo and Kyle Connor with 18 seconds left in the second period.

In 62 games, Scheifele has 30 goals and 48 assists for 78 points. He is a +6 with 22 penalty minutes, 17 power-play points, six game-winning goals, one shorthanded point, 136 shots on goal, 455 faceoff wins, 34 blocked shots, 25 hits, 20 takeaways, and 84 giveaways.
