Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Mark McMorris of Regina, Saskatchewan continued with his excellence at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado on Sunday. McMorris won the gold medal for Canada in men’s slopestyle snowboarding. It was one of five medals Canada won at the Winter X Games. The other four were won by Naomi Urness of Mont-Tremblant, Quebec (silver in women’s slopestyle skiing), Canadian Olympic gold medalist Cassie Sharpe of Calgary, Alberta (bronze in women’s superpipe skiing), Megan Oldham of Newmarket, Ontario (bronze in women’s big air skiing) and Dylan Deschamps of Quebec City, Quebec (bronze in men’s big air skiing).
McMorris had a winning score of 96.33 points. Marcus Kleveland of Norway won the silver medal with 94.33 points. Red Gerard of the United States win the bronze medal with 93 points. McMorris reached the podium by four points over Rene Rinnekangas of Finland, who finished in fourth place with 92.33 points. This was McMorris’s 25th Winter X Games medal.
Urness had a second place score of 85 points on Sunday. Kristy Muir of Great Britain won the gold medal with 93.66 points. Mathilde Gremaud of Switzerland won the bronze medal with 80 points. Urness reached the podium by 10 points over Oldham, who was in fourth place with 75 points. This was Urness’s first Winter X Games medal.
Sharpe had a third place score of 87 points on Friday. Zoe Atkin of Great Britain won the gold medal with 94.66 points. Indra Brown of Australia won the silver medal with 90 points. Sharpe reached the podium by two points over Canadian Amy Fraser of Halifax, Nova Scotia, who finished in fourth place with 85 points. This was Sharpe’s seventh Winter X Games medal.
Oldham had a third place score of 90.66 points on Sunday. Gremaud won the gold medal with with 94.66 points and Muir won the silver medal with 94 points. Oldham reached the podium by 5.66 points over Urness, who was in fourth place with 85 points. This was Oldham’s eighth Winter X Games medal.
Deschamps had a third place score of 94 points on Friday. Mac Forehand of the United States won the gold medal with 96 points. Luca Harrington of New Zealand won the silver medal with 94.66 points. Deschamps reached the podium by 0.34 points over Tormod Frostad of Norway, who had a fourth place scored of 93.66 points. This was Deschamps’s first Winter X Games medal.
Sharpe won her Olympic gold medal in women’s halfpipe skiing at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. McMorris won the bronze medal in men’s slopestyle snowboarding at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, and the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The medals for McMorris, Sharpe, Deschamps, Oldham and Urness will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
