Marion Thenault wins 12th career World Cup women’s aerials medal

Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Marion Thenault of Sherbrooke, Quebec won the silver medal in a World Cup women’s aerials event in Ruka, Finland on Saturday. For Thenault, it was her 12th career World Cup medal. She has now won four World Cup gold medals, four World Cup silver medals, and four World Cup bronze medals.

Thenault posted a score of 82.48 points. Mengtao Xu of China won the gold medal with 89.29 points. Meiting Chen of China won the bronze medal with 75.31 points. Thenault reached the podium by 13.17 points. Kyra Dossa of the United States finished in fourth place with a score of 69.31 points.

This was the first of six World Cup women’s aerials events this season. The second will be in Secret Garden, China on December 20. The next two will be in Canada as the third World Cup will be in Lac-Beauport, Quebec on January 6, and the fourth World Cup will be in Lac-Beauport, Quebec on January 7. The fifth World Cup will be in Lake Placid, New York on January 11, and the sixth World Cup will be in Deer Valley, Utah on January 18.

Thenault won an Olympic bronze medal with Miha Fontaine of Magog, Quebec and Lewis Irving of Quebec City, Quebec in mixed team aerials at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The silver medal for Thenault in Ruka will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
