
The World Cup aerials season began on Sunday in Ruka, Finland, with two Canadian Olympic bronze medalists landing on the podium. Marion Thenault of Sherbrooke, Quebec won the silver medal in the women’s aerials event, while Lewis Irving of Quebec City, Quebec won the bronze medal in the men’s aerials event. Thenault and Irving teamed up with Mina Fontaine of Magog, Quebec to win the bronze medal in the mixed team aerials event at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
In the women’s World Cup aerials, Thenault had a score of 90.59 points. Danielle Scott of Australia won the gold medal with a score of 99.05 points. Zhanbota Aldabergenova of of Kazakhstan won the bronze medal with a score of 80.04 points. Thenault reached the podium by 12.29 points over Kalia Kuhn of the United States, who had a score of 78.3 points.
In the men’s World Cup aerials, Irving had a score of 109.29 points. Pirmin Werner of Switzerland won the gold medal with a score of 126.24 points. Noe Roth of Switzerland won the silver medal with 123.98 points. Irving reached the podium by 5.31 points over fellow Canadian Alexandre Duchaine of Quebec City, Quebec, who had 103.98 points.
This is Theanult’s fourth World Cup women’s aerials medal. She previously won gold in Almaty, Kazakhstan on March 13, 2021, silver in Le Relais, Quebec on January 5, 2022, and bronze in Moscow, Russia on January 23, 2021. Irving meanwhile has seven World Cup medals, as he won six bronze medals and one silver medal. The medals for Thenault and Irving will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
