
Minnesota Wild left winger Marcus Foligno of Sudbury, Ontario recorded his first career National Hockey League hat trick on Monday. The dual Canadian-American citizen was born in Buffalo, New York, as that is where his dad Mike played for the Buffalo Sabres. However, Marcus represents Canada internationally as both of his parents are born in Canada. Marcus also played his junior hockey in Sudbury with the Wolves, and was married in Sudbury.
Foligno’s hat trick came in a 6-3 Wild win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena. Foligno’s first goal put the Wild up 3-1 at 6:53 of the second period from defensemen Brock Faber and Quinn Hughes. Foligno then put the Wild up 5-1 from Faber and Danila Yurov with 46 seconds left on the power-play. Foligno then closed the scoring with an empty net goal with two minutes and 38 seconds left in the game. Vladimir Tarasenko and Nico Sturm had the assists.
On the season, Foligno has six goals and four assists for 10 points. He is a -11 with 45 penalty minutes, two power-play points, 46 shots on goal, eight faceoff wins, 37 blocked shots, 130 hits, seven takeaways, and 21 giveaways.
The Wild are tied for second place in the Central Division with 65 points. They have a record of 28 wins, 14 regulation losses and nine losses in extra time, and are tied with the Dallas Stars.
