Canadian Olympic silver medalist Marco Arop of Edmonton. Alberta won the gold medal in the men’s 800 metres at the 2025 Grand Slam Track Miami in Miramar, Florida on Saturday. This is Arop’s second gold medal in the men’s 800 metres at a Grand Slam track event in 2025. He won the gold medal in the first ever Grand Slam Track event in Kingston, Jamaica on April 5.

Arop posted a winning time of 1:43.69. Kethobogile Haingura of the United States won the silver medal with a time of 1:43.75. Peter Bol of Australia won the bronze medal with a time of 1:44.13. Arop reached the podium by 1.08 seconds over Yared Nuguse of Botswana, who had a fourth place time of 1:44.77.

Arop’s time in Kingston earlier this year was 1:45.13. The fact that he ran 1.44 seconds faster in Miami is noteworthy. It should also be noted that Arop would not have reached the podium in Miami with his Kingston time.

The time Arop posted at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris when he won the silver medal in the men’s 800 metres was 1:41.20. That was an Americas record. The gold medal that Arop won on Saturday in the United States will give him confidence as he prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
