
Canadian Olympic silver medalist Marco Arop of Edmonton, Alberta won the bronze medal in the Diamond League Finals in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday. Arop won his second Diamond League medal of the season and 20th Diamond League medal of his career. He has won five gold medals, eight silver medals, and seven bronze medals.
Arop posted a third place time of 1:42.57. Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya won the gold medal with a time of 1:42.37. Max Burgin of Great Britain won the silver medal with a time of 1:42.42. Arop reached the podium by 0.27 seconds. Djamel Sedjati of Algeria finished in fourth place with a time of 1:42.84.
Arop’s other podium finish in Diamond League action this year came in London on July 19. He posted a time of 1:42.22 in finishing second, and was .22 seconds slower than Wanyonyi.
The Olympic silver medal for Arop came at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Arop had a time of 1:41.20, and was only one one-hundredth of a second slower than Wanyonyi.
Next up for Arop is the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. The men’s 800 metre final will be on September 20. The bronze medal for Arop in Zurich will give him confidence as he prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
