
Mackenzie Blackwood of Thunder Bay, Ontario recorded his first National Hockey League Stanley Cup playoff career shutout on Saturday. He accomplished the feat in a 4-0 Colorado Avalanche win over the Dallas Stars. With the win, the Avalanche and the Stars are now tied at two games apiece in the best out of seven series.
Blackwood made 23 saves for the shutout. He had 11 saves in the first period, five saves in the second period, and seven saves in the third period. Seven Stars players led the team with two shots on goal apiece. They were Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jamie Benn of Victoria, British Columbia, Thomas Harley of Mississauga, Ontario, Wyatt Johnston of Toronto, Ontario, Mason Marchment of Uxbridge, Ontario, Mavrik Bourque of Plessisville, Quebec, Colin Blackwell, and defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin. Benn won a gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
Two Canadian born players scored for the Avalanche. They were Nathan MacKinnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and defenseman Samuel Girard of Roberval, Quebec.
Blackwood has 14 career NHL shutouts. However, all of them came in the regular season. Four shutouts came in the 2024-25 regular season. They came in a 1-0 San Jose Sharks win over the New Jersey Devils on November 10, in a 5-0 Avalanche win over the St. Louis Blues on January 31, in a 2-0 Avalanche win over the Philadelphia Flyers on February 2, and in a 4-0 Avalanche win over the Los Angeles Kings on March 27.
