
Colorado Avalanche goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood of Thunder Bay, Ontario recorded his 16th National Hockey League shutout on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 6-0 Avalanche win over the San Jose Sharks at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado.
Blackwood made 26 saves. He made five saves in the first period, 17 saves in the second period, and four saves in the third period. Will Smith led the Sharks with four shots on goal.
Offensively, Nathan MacKinnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia led the Avalanche in points with two. He had one goal and one assist.
This was Blackwood’s second shutout of the season. He made 35 saves this past Saturday in a 3-0 Avalanche win over the Nashville Predators. Of Blackwood’s 16 NHL shutouts, eight have been with the New Jersey Devils, five have been with the San Jose Sharks and three have been with the Avalanche.
In 2025-26, Blackwood has a record of four wins and one loss in extra time, goals against average of 1.98 and a save percentage of .928. Blackwood’s two shutouts are the second most int the NHL. Jesper Wallstedt of the Minnesota Wild leads the NHL with three shutouts.
With the win, the Avalanche have won 10 straight games. They lead the entire NHL with 39 points.
