Kevin Koe has simply had a remarkable curling career. The excellence continued on Saturday as the Alberta champions defeated Matt Dunstone of Winnipeg, Manitoba by a score of 9-7 in the 1-2 game at the 2026 Montana’s Brier at the Mary Brown’s Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
The win over Dunstone means that Koe is participating in his eighth Brier final. He was victorious in 2010 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 2014 in Kamloops, British Columbia. in 2016 in Ottawa, Ontario and in 2019 in Brandon, Manitoba.
However, very few would have anticipated Koe’s excellence in St. John’s this week. With the media spotlight being on Brad Gushue, as this was going to be his final Brier, and Brad Jacobs, as he just won a gold medal at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo last month, Koe has gone about his business and won every single curling game he has played in the last week.
At age 51, Koe is as strong as a curler as he ever was. His accurate shot making is noteworthy, and has built excellent chemistry with lead Karrick Martin, second Aaron Sluchinski, and third Tyler Tardi.
Now we will have to find out who Koe’s opponent will be in the final. It will either be Dunstone or Jacobs, who beat Gushue 7-5 in the 3/4 game.
