Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Manitoba became the fourth skip to win three consecutive Canadian women’s curling championships on Sunday. In the 2022 Scotties Tournament of Hearts final, Einarson’s Team Canada defeated Northern Ontario’s Krista McCarville 9-6 from Thunder Bay, Ontario.

The big end for Einarson was the fifth end when she scored three points to take a commanding 6-2 lead. Team Canada Val Sweeting curled 90% in the final. Throughout the week, she curled 88%.

Team Canada went through the round robin with a perfect record of 8-0. However Einarson lost 8-6 to New Brunswick’s Andrea Crawford on Friday, which forced her to play the 3-4 game. There she beat Tracy Fleury’s wildcard squad 11-6, and got redemption against Crawford with a 8-4 win in the semifinal, before beating McCarville on Sunday night.

Einarson will now represent Canada at the 2022 Women’s World Curling Championship in Prince George, British Columbia from March 19-27. The other three skips to win three consecutive Canadian women’s national championships are Vera Pezer of Melfort, Saskatchewan (1971, 1972, 1973), Colleen Jones of Halifax, Nova Scotia (2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004), and Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg, Manitoba (2008, 2009, and 2010).

In other curling news, Canada failed to reach the semifinals in mixed doubles curling at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. After defeating the Czech Republic 7-5, Canada was upset 10-8 by Australia, and then was beaten 8-7 by Italy on Sunday. All three of the aforementioned games went to an extra end.
