
Canadian Olympic silver medalist Joshua Liendo of Toronto, Ontario continued his excellence in the swimming pool on Saturday. Liendo won gold in the men’s 100 yard freestyle for the fourth straight year at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Swimming and Diving Championships.
Liendo’s time on Saturday in Atlanta was 39.91 seconds. The University of Florida Gators product won the gold medal by 0.42 seconds. Jere Hribar of Croatia, who represents Louisiana State University, won the silver medal with a time of 40.33 seconds and Guilherme Caribe of Brazil, who represents the University of Tennessee, won the bronze medal with a time of 40.41 seconds.
When Liendo won the men’s 100 yard freestyle in 2023 in Minneapolis, he had a winning time of 40.28 seconds. In 2024 in Indianapolis, his men’s 100 yard freestyle time was 40.2 seconds. Then in 2025 in Seattle. Liendo’s men’s 100 yard freestyle time was 39.99 seconds.
Liendo finished the Atlanta meet with three individual gold medals. In addition to setting a NCAA record in the men’s 100 yard butterfly on Thursday, Liendo won gold in the men’s 50 yard freestyle on Friday. Liendo had a winning time of 18.06 seconds. Caribe won the silver medal with a time of 18.19 seconds. Ilya Kharun of the United States, who is representing Arizona State, won the bronze medal with a time of 18.24 seconds.
Liendo’s Olympic silver medal came in the men’s 100 metre butterfly at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. His three individual gold medals at the 2026 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta, Georgia will give him confidence as he prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
