Joel Quenneville of Windsor, Ontario made National Hockey League history on Wednesday. He became only the second coach ever to 1000 wins as a NHL head coach. He accomplished the feat in a 6-5 Anaheim Ducks win over the Edmonton Oilers.

Of Quenneville’s 1000 wins, 452 wins have come with the Chicago Blackhawks (2008 to 2019), 307 wins have come with the St. Louis Blues (1996 to 2004), 131 wins have come with the Colorado Avalanche (2005 to 2008), 79 wins have come with the Florida Panthers (2019 to 2021), and 31 wins have come with the Ducks (2026 to 2027).

The only other NHL head coach to record 1000 head coaching wins was Scotty Bowman of Montreal, Quebec. The Hockey Hall of Famer had 1244 coaching wins. He had 419 wins from 1971 to 1979, 410 wins with the Detroit Red Wings from 1993 to 2002, 210 wins with the Buffalo Sabres from 1979 to 1986, 110 wins with the St. Louis Blues from 1967 to 1971, and 95 wins with the Pittsburgh Penguins from 1991 to 1993.

In Quenneville’s record setting game, the Ducks won in dramatic fashion. Cutter Gauthier scored the game-winning goal with one minute and 14 seconds left in the third period to break a 5-5 tie.

With the win, the Duck moved into second place in the Pacific Division, past the Oilers. They have a record of 31 wins, 23 regulation losses and three losses in extra time for 65 points.
