St. Louis Blues goaltender Joel Hofer of Winnipeg, Manitoba recorded his eighth National Hockey League shutout on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 3-0 Blues win over the Washington Capitals at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
Hofer made eight saves in the first period, five saves in the second period, and eight saves in the third period. Defenseman Jacob Chychrun of Toronto, Ontario led the Capitals with four shots on goal.
One Canadian scored for the Blues. Jordan Kyrou of Toronto, Ontario closed out the scoring with an empty net unassisted goal with 41 seconds left in the third period.
It has been a breakout season for Hofer in 2025-26. That is because he is second in the NHL with six shutouts. The only goaltender with more NHL shutouts is Ilya Sorokin of the New York Islanders, who has seven shutouts.
Hofer’s record this season is 18 wins, 11 regulation losses and five losses in extra time. He has a goals against average of 2.57 and a save percentage of .909.
Oner may be surprised that the Blues have completely split duties this season between Hofer and Jordan Binnington of Richmond Hill, Ontario. Binnington has struggled mightily as he has a goals against average of 3.40 and a save percentage of .872.
