
Seattle Kraken centre Jared McCann of Statford, Ontario has been named the National Hockey League first star of the week for the period from January 26 to February 1 according to Julian Gaudio of The Hockey News. In three games, McCann had four goals and three assists for seven points.
McCann began the week by tying a career-high for most points in one game with four. He had two goals and two assists in a 5-1 Kraken win over the Washington Capitals. McCann’s previous high for most points in a game came on February 22, 2024 in a 5-2 Kraken win over the Vancouver Canucks, as McCann had one goal and three assists.
Then on January 29, McCann had one goal and one assist for two points, and one blocked shot in a 5-2 Kraken win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. That was followed by a power-play goal and one hit in a 3-2 Kraken win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday. Also during the week, McCann was a +4 with two power-play points, one game-winning goal, seven shots on goal, and three faceoff wins.
McCann’s first power-play point for the week was a power-play goal and came in the Kraken win over the Capitals. McCann scored from Jordan Eberle of Regina, Saskatchewan and Chandler Stephenson of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on an all-Canadian goal at 1:15 of the second period to put the Kraken up 1-0 at the time. McCann then put the Kraken up 2-0 against the Capitals with a game-winning goal from Matty Beniers and defenseman Ryan Lindgren at 10:09 of the second period. Then McCann’s second power-play point was another all-Canadian goal. He put the Kraken up 2-0 at 13:04 of the first period with a goal from defenseman Vince Dunn of Mississauga, Ontario and Stephenson in the Seattle win over Vegas.
In 30 games this season, McCann has 16 goals and 13 assists for 29 points. He is a +3, with five penalty minutes, 11 power-play points, two game-winning goals, 72 shots on goal, eight faceoff wins, 18 hits, 21 blocked shots, eight takeaways, and 32 giveaways. The other game-winning goal McCann has scored for the Kraken this season came on October 11 in a 2-1 Seattle win over the Vegas Golden Knights. McCann scored from Dunn and Beniers with four seconds left in the extra period.
