Jameson Taillon is becoming a reliable and dependable starting pitcher for the National League Central Division leading Chicago Cubs. Taillon, who represents Canada internationally as his parents are both Canadian, has been the third best starter for the Cubs at the moment behind Colin Rea and Matthew Boyd. Taillon’s spot in the rotation is safe with Justin Steele on the 60 day injury list and Shota Imanaga on the 15 day injury list.
This is Taillon’s third season with the Cubs after four seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2016 to 2019, and two seasons with the New York Yankees in 2021 and 2022. In 10 games this season, Taillon has a record of three wins and three losses with an earned run average of 4.13. During 56 1/3 innings, he has given up 50 hits, 26 earned runs, 14 home runs, and 12 walks, to go along with 44 strikeouts and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.09.
Taillon has had two performances in May where he has had the win and quality start. The first came on May 3 in a 6-2 Cubs win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Taillon only gave up two earned runs in six innings, and gave up three hits and one walk, to go along with five strikeouts. The second came on Tuesday in a 14-1 Cubs win over the Miami Marlins. Taillon only gave up four hits, one earned run, and three walks in seven innings, to go along with two strikeouts. Taillon now has 95 quality starts in his career.
The Cubs are at 31 wins and 20 losses. They lead the second place St. Louis Cardinals by three games.
