Ivanie Blondin of Ottawa, Ontario is a silver medalist in the women’s mass start speed skating event at her second straight Olympic Winter Games. Four years after placing second at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, Blondin reached the left step of the podium again at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo on Saturday.

Marjike Groenewoud of the Netherlands won the gold medal. Mia Kilburg of the United States won the bronze medal.

At 35 years of age, Blondin has now won four Olympic medals. She also won gold in the women’s team pursuit with Valerie Maltais of La Baie, Quebec and Isabelle Weidemann of Ottawa, Ontario at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing and the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.

One of the biggest surprises at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan, is the fact that Canada had the same number of medals in long track speed skating than short track speed skating. Team Canada exceeded expectations in long track speed skating as they won five medals. A lot more was expected in short track speed skating, but Canada only won five medals.

This was Canada’s 19th medal at the Olympic Winter Games. They have won four gold medals, six silver medals and nine bronze medals.
