The New York Islanders have traded defenseman Noah Dobson of Summerside, Prince Edward Island to the Montreal Canadiens according to nhl.com on Friday. In return, the Islanders received left winger Emil Heineman, the 16th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft (right winger Victor Eklund), and the 17th overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft (defenseman Kashawn Aitcheson of Toronto, Ontario). Aitcheson played this past season with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League.

Dobson has spent the last six seasons with the Islanders. He was actually New York’s first round pick, 12th overall, in the 2018 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Dobson was the second Canadian defenseman taken in the 2018 draft. The first was Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario, who was taken 10th overall by the Edmonton Oilers.

In 2024-25, Dobson had 10 goals and 29 assists for 39 points in 71 games. He was a -16 with 28 penalty minutes, 12 power-play points, one shorthanded point, one game-winning goal, 196 shots on goal, 126 blocked shots, 57 hits, 36 takeaways, and 108 giveaways.

The game-winning goal in 2024-25 came on March 16 in a 4-2 Islanders win over the eventual Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. Dobson scored from Anders Lee at 12:33 of the third period. At the time, the Islanders went up 3-2.
