
Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Ilya Kharun of Montreal, Quebec and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Summer McIntosh of Toronto, Ontario won medals at the Tyr Pro Swim Series in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Kharun won gold in the men’s 100 metre butterfly on Saturday, and McIntosh won silver in the women’s 800 metre freestyle on Thursday.
Kharun had a winning time of 50.42 seconds. Bjoern Kammann of Germany won the silver medal with a time of 51.95 seconds. Julian Koch of Germany won the bronze medal with a time of 52.29 seconds. Kharun reached the podium by 1.89 seconds over Martin Espernberger of Austria, who had a fourth place time of 52.31 seconds.
McIntosh had a second place time of 3:58.28. Katie Ledecky of the United States won the gold medal with a time of 3:56.81. Claire Weinstein of the United States won the bronze medal with a time of 4:01.26. McIntosh reached the podium comfortably by 10.33 seconds. Jillian Cox of the United States finished in fourth place with a time of 4:08.61.
Kharun won the bronze medal in the men’s 100 metre butterfly and the men’s 200 metre butterfly at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. McIntosh won the gold medal in the women’s 200 metre butterfly, women’s 200 metre medley and women’s 400 metre medley at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The gold medal for Kharun and the silver medal for McIntosh will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
