Carolina Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis of Winnipeg, Manitoba has been named to the Canadian Olympic men’s hockey team according to Rogers Sportsnet on Thursday. Jarvis replaces Tampa Bay Lightning centre Brayden Point of Calgary, Alberta. Point withdrew from the tournament because of a knee injury he suffered on January 12 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Point is one of two Lightning players that suffered an injury and are not representing Team Canada. The other is Anthony Cirelli of Etobicoke, Ontario, who suffered an injury this past Sunday against the Boston Bruins, and is replaced by Florida Panthers centre Sam Bennett of Holland Landing, Ontario.

This season, Jarvis has 25 goals and 18 assists for 43 points in 48 games. He is a +10 with six penalty minutes, 11 power-play points, three shorthanded points, six game-winning goals, 153 shots on goal, 26 faceoff wins, 21 blocked shots, 69 hits, 25 takeaways, and 41 giveaways. Jarvis’s most notable game of the season came on November 28. He had a hat trick in a 5-1 Hurricanes win over the Winnipeg Jets.

In other Olympic hockey news, the Olympic women’s hockey game between Canada and Finland has been rescheduled to February 12 at 6:30 AM MT. The game was originally at 1pm MT on Thursday, but was moved because of a Norovirus outbreak on Team Finland. Canada’s first game now in Olympic women’s hockey is Saturday against Switzerland at 1:10 PM MT.
