
Gabriel Diallo of Montreal, Quebec is in the semifinals of the 2025 Libema Open. On Friday in the quarterfinals of this grass court tennis tournament in Rosmalen, Netherlands, Diallo upset the third seed, Karen Khachanov of Russia, 7-6, 6-4.
It was the first time in four meetings that Diallo beat Khachanov. The Russian is ranked 24th in the world and a two-time grand slam semifinalist (2022 United States Open and 2023 Australian Open). Diallo is ranked 55th in the world.
Diallo had the strong service edge as he had 19 aces and three double faults. Khachanov had seven aces and four double faults. Next up for Diallo is the second seed, Ugo Humbert of France, the 20th ranked player in the world. This will be their first ever meeting head-to-head.
There are actually two Canadians in ATP semifinals on Saturday. The other is Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec. The 2021 United States Open semifinalist is in the semifinals of the BOSS Open in Stuttgart. Auger-Aliassime, the fourth seed, will be facing the second seed Taylor Fritz of the United States, the 2024 United States Open finalist. Fritz has won two of three meetings overall. Auger-Aliassime won the last meeting, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 at the United Cup in Perth, Australia this past December.
