
Gabriel Diallo of Montreal, Quebec has reached his second ATP Final of his tennis career. He accomplished the feat when he upset the second seed Ugo Humbert of France in the semifinals of the 2025 Libema Open in Rosmalen, Netherlands on Saturday.
Diallo defeated Humbert 6-3, 7-6. Diallo had the service advantage from a statistical standpoint. Diallo had four aces compared to two aces for Humbert. Diallo also won 83% of the points on the first serve, compared to 66% of the points Humbert won on his first serve. Diallo also had five break point opportunities, of which he broke Humbert once. Diallo is ranked 55th in the world, while Humbert is ranked 20th.
Diallo will now face Zizou Bergs of Belgium in the final. Diallo has won their only prior meeting. It came in the first round of Madrid on clay this year, which Diallo won 6-1, 6-2. Bergs is ranked 63rd in the world.
Diallo’s prior ATP Final came at the 2024 Almaty Open in Kazakhstan. Diallo lost to Karen Khachanov of Russia, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. Khachanov is a two-time grand slam semifinalist as he made the final four of the United States Open in 2022 and the Australian Open in 2023. In the Netherlands this week, Diallo beat Khachanov 7-6, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
This is the second straight year that a Canadian has reached the final of the Libema Open. Last year Bianca Andreescu of Mississauga, Ontario made the final of the women’s event, before losing 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 to Liudmila Samsonova of Russia.
