
Former National Hockey League goaltender Greg Millen of Toronto, Ontario has passed away at the age of 67. According to Mike Davies of the Peterborough Examiner, the cause of death was a heart attack.
Millen played 14 seasons in the NHL with six franchises. He was with the Pittsburgh Penguins from 1978 to 1981, the Hartford Whalers from 1981 to 1985, the St. Louis Blues from 1985 to 1989, the Quebec Nordiques from 1989 to 1990, the Chicago Blackhawks from 1990 to 1991, and the Detroit Red Wings from 1991 to 1992.
In 604 NHL regular season games, Millen had a record of 215 wins, 284 losses, and 89 ties. He had a goals against average of 3.88, a save percentage of .873 and 17 shutouts. Millen led the NHL with 1771 saves while with the Whalers in 1982-83. He then led the NHL with 1596 saves while with the Whalers in 1983-84. Then in 1988-89 while with the Blues, Millen led the NHL with six shutouts.
Since his retirement, Millen was a colour-commentator for hockey broadcasts. He was recently an analyst for the Calgary Flames on Rogers Sportsnet, sharing duties with fellow former NHL goaltender Kelly Hrudey of Edmonton, Alberta. Millen was also an analyst for CTV’s men’s ice hockey coverage for the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, and was the lead colour commentator for CBC’s coverage of the 2007 and 2008 Stanley Cup Finals.
