
Former Montreal Canadiens left winger Chuck Lefley of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away at the age of 76 on January 26 according to nhl.com in a news release on Saturday. Lefley played nine seasons in the National Hockey League. He was with the Montreal Canadiens for five seasons from 1970 to 1974, and then five more seasons with the St. Louis Blues. Lefley was with the Blues for three seasons from 1974 to 1977, and then two more seasons from 1979 to 1981.
In 407 regular season games, Lefley had 128 goals and 164 assists for 292 points. He was a +53 with 137 penalty minutes, 56 power-play points, 20 shorthanded points, 22 game-winning goals, and 837 shots on goal. In 1975-76, Lefley led the NHL with eight shorthanded goals while with the Blues.
Lefley won a Stanley Cup with the Canadiens in 1971 and 1973. In 1971, Lefley only played two games for the Canadiens, but one game was in the playoffs, and met the criteria to get his name on the Stanley Cup. The Canadiens beat the Chicago Black Hawks in seven games. While playing primarily as a centre in the 1972-73 regular season, and a left winger in the playoffs, Lefley helped the Canadiens beat the Chicago Black Hawks in six games. He had three goals and five assists for eight points in the 1973 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
