Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec delivered an upset at the 2025 ATP World Finals in Turin, Italy on Wednesday. Auger-Aliassime, the eighth seed, upset the fifth seed, Ben Shelton of the United States, 4-6, 7-6, 7-5.

The serve was a key statistic throughout the match. Auger-Aliassime had nine aces and one double fault. Shelton had seven aces and three double faults. One of Shelton’s double faults was very timely. It came at the end of the second set and won Auger-Aliassime the tiebreak by a score of 9-7.

Auger-Aliassime seemed to be the player in the match that was more composed. At one point in the first set, Shelton received a violation for unsportsmanlike conduct for tossing his racket.

With the win, Auger-Aliassime improved to 1-1. He lost 7-5, 6-1 to Jannik Sinner on Monday. The top two players from the Bjorn Borg Group reach the semifinals.

This was Auger-Aliassime’s second career win over Shelton. Auger-Aliassime previously beat Shelton 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 in the third round of the 2024 French Open.

Next up for Auger-Aliassime is Alexander Zverev of Germany. Zverev has won six of nine meetings all-time but Auger-Aliassime won their last meeting in the third round of the 2025 United States Open, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, 6-4.

This was Auger-Aliassime’s second win ever at the ATP World Finals. In 2022, he beat Rafael Nadal of Spain 6-2, 6-4 in Turin.
