
Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec is in the semifinals of the 2025 United States Open. On Wednesday from Flushing Meadows, New York, Auger-Aliassime defeated Alex de Minaur of Australia 4-6, 7-6, 7-5, 7-6 in the quarterfinals of the final major of the season.
Auger-Aliassime had the service advantage. He had 22 aces compared to eight for de Minaur. Auger-Aliassime also won 64% of his first serve points compared to 42% for de Minaur. This was considered an upset as Auger-Aliassime is seeded 25th in the world, and de Minaur is eighth.
This was the third time in four meetings that Auger-Aliassime has beaten de Minaur. Auger-Aliassime previously won 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of Cincinnati in 2022, and 6-3, 6-4 in the 2022 Davis Cup Final in Malaga, Spain.
Auger-Aliassime next plays Italy’s Jannik Sinner, the world number one, and four-time grand slam champion. Sinner won the Australian Open in 2024 and 2025, the United States Open in 2024, and Wimbledon in 2025. Auger-Aliassime has beaten Sinner in two of three matches. He won 6-1, 6-2 in the third round of Madrid in 2022, and 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 in the third round of Cincinnati in 2022.
Meanwhile, Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Gabriela Dabrowski of Ottawa, Ontario and Erin Routliffe of New Zealand are in the women’s doubles final of the United States Open on Friday. They will play Taylor Townsend of the United States and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic. Dabrowski and Routliffe won the United States Open women’s doubles title in 2023. Dabrowski and Auger-Aliassime won the bronze medal together in mixed doubles at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
