
Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec is in the semifinals of the ATP World Tour Finals in Turin, Italy. On Friday, Auger-Aliassime defeated Alexander Zverev of Germany 6-4, 7-6 in the final scheduled match in the Bjorn Borg Group. With the win, Auger-Aliassime finished in second place in the group with a record of two wins and one loss. Auger-Aliassime previously beat Ben Shelton of the United States 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 on Wednesday.
This was a significant win for Auger-Aliassime, who was the eighth seed at the ATP World Tour Finals. Zverev was the third seed and is a three-time grand slam finalist as he made the final two at the 2020 United States Open, 2024 French Open, and 2025 Australian Open.
In Friday’s match which could have been considered a quarterfinal encounter, Auger-Aliassime had the service advantage. The Canadian had 11 aces compared to zero double faults. Zverev had nine aces and two double faults. Auger-Aliassime recorded the only break of serve in the match and beat Zverev 7-4 in the second set tiebreak.
Auger-Aliassime has now beaten Zverev four times in 10 opportunities. Auger-Aliassime also won 6-4, 7-6, 3-6, 3-6, 6-4 in the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2021, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in the 2022 ATP Cup in Sydney, Australia, and 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the third round of the 2025 United States Open.
Next up for Auger-Aliassime is the first seed, Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, the six-time grand slam champion. Auger-Aliassime has won three of seven meetings head-to-head. Auger-Aliassime won in the quarterfinals of the 2021 United States Open, the group stage of the 2022 Davis Cup in Valencia, Spain (6-7, 6-4, 6-2) and the semifinals of the 2022 Swiss Indoor (6-3, 6-2).
