Felix Auger-Aliassime reaches 2025 US Open quarterfinals

Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec is in the quarterfinals of a grand slam men’s singles tennis tournament for a fourth time in his career. On Labour Day Monday in Flushing Meadows, New York, Auger-Aliassime, the 25th seed went into Arthur Ashe Stadium and put a beatdown on the 15th seed, Andrey Rublev of Russia, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.

Auger-Aliassime had the service advantage. He had 13 aces compared to Rublev’s six. Auger-Aliassime broke Rublev four times in seven opportunities. At one time, Rublev got extremely discouraged and smashed his racquet.

This was only the second time in nine meetings that Auger-Aliassime beat Rublev. The only other time came in the semifinals of Rotterdam in 2022, which Auger-Aliassime won 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.

Next up in the quarterfinals is world number eight Alex de Minaur of Australia. All-time, Auger-Aliassime has won two of the three matches. Auger-Aliassime won 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of Cincinnati in 2022, and 6-3, 6-4 in the 2022 Davis Cup Final in Malaga, Spain. de Minaur won the last meeting. It came in the third round of Rome in 2024. In this three set encounter, de Minaur came through with an intriguing 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 win.

Auger-Aliassime has won one grand slam men’s quarterfinal match in his career. That came at the 2021 United States quarterfinals,  where Auger-Aliassime beat Carlos Alcaraz of Spain.
