
Canadian Olympic gold medalist Emerance Maschmeyer of Bruderheim, Alberta recorded her third career Professional Women’s Hockey League shutout on Saturday. She accomplished the feat in a 4-0 Vancouver Goldeneyes win over the New York Sirens at Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Maschmeyer made 28 saves on Saturday. She made seven saves in the first period, 10 saves in the second period, and 11 saves in the third period.
Two Canadians scored for the Goldeneyes. Defenseman and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ashton Bell of Deloraine, Manitoba put the Goldeneyes up 2-0, and Jennifer Gardner of Surrey, British Columbia put the Goldeneyes up 3-0 with a shorthanded goal. Bell and Maschmeyer won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
Gardiner and defenseman Sophie Jaques of Toronto, Ontario each had multi-point games. Gardiner had one goal and one assist for two points. Jaques had two assists.
Maschmeyer’s two prior PWHL shutouts were with Ottawa, before they were officially known as the Charge. The first came in a 3-0 Ottawa win over New York on March 20, 2024, and the second came in a 4-0 Ottawa win over Minnesota on April 20, 2024.
This season Maschmeyer has a record of two wins and two losses. She has a goals against average of 2.28 and save percentage of .925. Maschmeyer’s first win this season came on November 21 in a 4-3 Vancouver win over Seattle. The Goldeneyes improved to a record of two wins and three losses with the win over the Sirens.
