Eliot Grondin of Sainte-Marie, Quebec has won a silver medal at his second straight Olympic Winter Games at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. On Thursday, Grondin reached the Big Final of the men’s snowboard cross event, and only placed behind gold medalist Alessandro Hammerle of Austria. Interestingly, it was Hammerle who also beat Grondin in the Big Final at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

In the men’s snowboard cross event at the Livigno Snow Park in Valtellina, Italy, Grondin had the second best seeding time of 1:06.75. Heading into the elimination round, Aidan Chollet of France had the fastest time of 1:06.37. Grondin then had the fastest time in the eighth heat of the elimination round, the fastest time in the fourth heat of the quarterfinals, and the fastest time in the second heat of the semifinals. Jakob Dusek of Austria won the bronze medal.

At the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, Grondin won two medals. He also won a bronze medal with Meryeta O’Dine of Prince George, British Columbia in the mixed team snowboard cross.

This was Canada’s sixth medal at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. They have now won three silver medals and three bronze medals. That is good enough for 10th place in the overall medal standings.
