Edmonton Oilers lead Vegas Golden Knights 2-0 in Western Conference semifinals

The Edmonton Oilers went into Vegas in the second round of the 2025 National Hockey League Stanley Cup Playoffs, and won the first two games. On Friday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada,  the Oilers defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 5-4 to take a two games to none lead in the best out of seven series.

The Oilers got a game-winning goal from Leon Draisaitl, the 2025 Rocket Richard Trophy winner. Draisaitl led the NHL this season with 52 goals. He was the only player this season to reach the 50 point plateau. Draisaitl also scored his second playoff overtime winner in his career. He also scored the 4-3 overtime goal in game four of the Oilers’ opening round playoff series against the Los Angeles Kings.

Two Canadians had assists on the Draisaitl game-winning goal. They were Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario and Canadian Olympic gold medalist Corey Perry of Peterborough, Ontario. Perry won the gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby, British Columbia led the Oilers in scoring as he had two points (two assists). Three Canadians scored for the Oilers. They were defensemen Jake Walman of Toronto, Ontario, Darnell Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario and Evander Kane of Vancouver, British Columbia. Game three is on Saturday night.
