Eagles trade John Metchie III to the Jets

According to the Associated Press on Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles have traded wide receiver John Metchie III of Brampton, Ontario to the New York Jets. In addition to Metchie III, the Jets receive a sixth round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. The Eagles receive a seventh round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft and cornerback Michael Carter II.

The Jets become Metchie III’s third National Football League franchise. He previously played two seasons with the Houston Texans in 2023 and 2024, and this season with the Eagles. In 2025, Metchie III only had four catches for 18 yards. Two of the catches for 10 yards came in the Eagles’s 31-25 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 28.

For Metchie III’s career,  he has 44 catches for 430 receiving yards and one touchdown. The major score came in a 26-23 Texans loss to the Detroit Lions on November 10, 2024.

Carter II has played the last five seasons with the Jets. In 2025, he had 14 combined tackles (nine solo tackles and five assisted tackles), two pass deflections and one tackle for a loss. In Carter II’s career, he has 223 combined tackles (161 solo tackles and 62 assisted tackles), 10 tackles for a loss, three quarterback hits, two interceptions, 26 pass deflections, one forced fumble, one sack, and three fumble recoveries for nine yards.
