Diamondbacks trade Josh Naylor to Mariners

The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded first baseman Josh Naylor of Mississauga, Ontario to the Seattle Mariners for pitching prospects Ashton Izzi and Brandyn Garcia according to Rogers Sportsnet on Thursday. Naylor is joining his fourth Major League Baseball team. He previously spent two seasons with the San Diego Padres from 2019 to 2020, five seasons with the Cleveland Guardians from 2020 to 2024, and this season with the Diamondbacks.

In 2025, Naylor is batting .292 with 11 home runs and 59 runs batted in. During 93 games, 349 at bats, and 394 plate appearances, he scored 49 runs, and had 102 hits, 19 doubles, one triple, 11 stolen bases, 37 walks, 156 total bases, and four sacrifice flies, with an on base percentage of .360, and a slugging percentage of .447.

Five times this season Naylor has three hits in a game. The Diamondbacks were 5-0 in those contests. Naylor had one home run and two singles in a 9-0 Diamondbacks win over the Baltimore Orioles on April 9, three singles in a 3-2 Diamondbacks win over the Chicago Cubs in a game that went into 11 innings on April 20, two doubles and one single in a 6-4 Diamondbacks win over the Atlanta Braves on April 27, one single, one double, and one home run in an 8-4 Diamondbacks win over the Seattle Mariners on June 9, and two singles and one double in a 10-3 Diamondbacks win over the Mariners on June 10. In the Diamondbacks win over the Mariners on June 9, Naylor had five runs batted in.

The Mariners have a record of 55 wins and 48 losses. They have the second best wildcard record in the American League, and lead the Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers by two games for a playoff spot.
