The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed Mike Soroka of Calgary, Alberta to a one-year deal worth $7.5 million. With incentives, Soroka could earn as much as $9.5 million according to TSN.
Soroka is joining his fifth Major League Baseball team. He was previously with the Atlanta Braves for four seasons (2018, 2019, 2020, and 2023). In 2024, Soroka was with the Chicago White Sox. Then last year Soroka shared his time with the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs.
In 2025, Soroka had a record of three wins and eight losses with an earned run average of 4.87. In 22 games and 89 2/3 innings pitched, he gave up 72 hits, 45 earned runs, 12 home runs and 29 walks, to go along with 95 strikeouts, one hold and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.13. The hold came in a 2-0 Cubs win over the St. Louis Cardinals on September 28.
While with Arizona, do not be surprised if Soroka is a reliever rather than a starter. He has a career earned run average as a reliever of 2.58, and a career earned run average as a starter of 4.01.
Soroka was a National League All-Star with the Braves in 2019. That year he had a record of 13 wins and four losses with an earned run average of 2.68. In 29 games and 174 2/3 innings pitched, Soroka gave up 153 hits, 52 earned runs, 14 home runs, and 41 walks, to go along with 142 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.11. He was also runner up to the National League Rookie of the Year, only behind New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso.
