The 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 takes place on Sunday and there is one Canadian in the field. In the 16th position (on the inside lane of row six) will be Devlin DeFrancesco of Toronto, Ontario. DeFrancesco is competing for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

DeFrancesco is one of four members of the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Team that qualified for the 2025 Indianapolis 500. The other three are Takuma Sato of Japan, rookie Louis Foster of Great Britain, and Graham Rahal of the United States.

This will be the third time DeFrancesco has competed in the Indianapolis 500. He finished 20th in 2022 and 13th in 2023. In both years, he competed for Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport.

DeFrancesco is competing in his first season with the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Team. He previously placed 22nd in St. Petersburg, 20th in Coachella Valley, 24th in Long Beach, 24th in Alabama, and 17th at the Indianapolis Grand Prix. DeFrancesco is in 25th place in the overall standings.

At 25 years of age, DeFrancesco’s best result in an IndyCar event was 12th. He accomplished the feat in Madison, Illinois in 2022 and Detroit in 2023. DeFrancesco was not part of the IndyCar circuit for the 2024 season, before signing an agreement with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in December.
