
Heading into the ninth day of the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo, Canada is at eight medals (three silver medals and five bronze medals). They are in 11th place in the overall medal standings. Here is what Sunday has in store.
Bobsled
The women’s monobob competition begins on Sunday with two Canadians in the mix for podium spots. Melissa Lotholz of Barrhead, Alberta is currently sixth in the world, and Cynthia Appiah of Toronto, Ontario is ranked seventh. Appiah won a silver medal at a World Cup monobob competition in Winterberg, Germany on January 3. The first heat goes at 2 am MT and the second heat goes at 3:50 am MT.
Alpine Skiing
Canada’s best chance of a medal here comes from Val Grenier of Ottawa, Ontario. Grenier is currently ranked eighth in the women’s giant slalom, and won her fifth World Cup medal in Tremblant, Quebec on December 6. The first run is at 2 AM MT, and the second run is at 5:30 AM MT.
Freestyle Skiing
There are two medal opportunities for Canada here. Canadian Olympic gold medalist Mikael Kingsbury of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec is trying to win gold in dual moguls for the first time, as the event is making its Olympic debut in Milan. In what is expected to be his final Olympic race at age 33, Kingsbury has won 37 World Cup dual moguls events in the past, and five gold medals in dual moguls at the World Championships. Meanwhile, Julien Viel of Quebec City, Quebec won the gold medal in the World Cup dual moguls on January 10. They start at 2:30 AM MT.
Hockey
Canada finishes top pool play with a game against France (8:40 AM MT). The Canadian men’s hockey team beat the Czech Republic 5-0 in their first game and Switzerland 5-1 in their second game.
Curling
Canada’s Brad Jacobs will look to bounce back after a Saturday loss to Switzerland. They have a record of three wins and one loss. Their Sunday opponent is China at 11 AM MT.
Ski Jumping
Abigail Strate of Calgary has five World Cup podiums already this year in the women’s large hill. Her first career World Cup win came on New Year’s Day in Oberstdorf, Germany (11:57 AM MT).
