Team Canada is now at three medals after four days of competition. That is tied for ninth place in the overall medal count. Here is what to expect in Wednesday’s action from Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Freestyle Skiing
Canada’s best chance for a medal on Wednesday in freestyle skiing will come from Saskatoon’s Maia Schwinghammer. In the women’s moguls, Schwinghammer is a legitimate medal contender after winning the bronze medal a year ago at the World Freestyle Skiing Championships in Engadin, Switzerland. She has also won three World Cup medals in the last two years. The super final starts at 6:55 AM MT.
Curling
Brad Jacobs’s quest for his second Olympic gold medal starts on Wednesday as Canada is facing Germany (11AM MT). It should be noted that German skip Marc Muskatewicz has an impressive resume. He has represented Germany at seven World Men’s Curling Championships and won gold at the 2024 European Curling Championships. In the final, Muskatewicz upset Scotland’s Bruce Mouat 9-7.
Figure Skating
Canadian figure skating fans could be seeing Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier one final time. The four-time medalists at the World Figure Skating Championships are currently in third place after the short program with 86.18 points. France’s Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron are in first place with 90.18 points and Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates are in second place with 89.72 points. Meanwhile ice dance teams from Great Britain, Italy, the United States, Lithuania and France are in striking distance of catching Gilles and Poirier on the podium (11:30 AM MT).
