Cynthia Appiah of Toronto, Ontario won a World Cup silver medal in the women’s monobob in Winterberg, Germany on Saturday. For Appiah, this was her 11th career World Cup bobsled medal. She has won one gold medal, three silver medals, and seven bronze medals.
Appiah posted a second place time of 1:58.53. Laura Nolte of Germany won the gold medal with a time of 1:58.37. Lisa Buckwitz of Germany won the bronze medal with a time of 1:58.57. Appiah reached the podium by five one hundredths of a second. Katrin Beierl of Austria finished in fourth place with a time of 1:58.58.
In the World Cup standings, Appiah moves into the top 10, as she now has 762 points, and is ninth overall. Laura Nolte of Germany leads the World Cup standings with 1070 points.
Germany has completely dominated the World Cup bobsled circuit this season. They have the top three two-man and four-man sleds, and have the first and third ranked sleds in women’s monobob, and two-woman bobsled. It is very realistic that Germany could win 10 medals or more in bobsled at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. The silver medal will give Appiah confidence as she prepares for the Olympic Winter Games next month.
