Courtney Sarault wins Olympic silver in the women’s 1000m short track speed skating

Courtney Sarault of Moncton, New Brunswick has won her third medal at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. On Monday, Sarault won the silver medal in the women’s 1000 metre short track speed skating.

Sarault posted a time of 1:28.523. Xandra Velzeboer of the Netherlands won the gold medal with a time of 1:28.437. Gilli Kim of South Korea won the bronze medal with a time of 1:28.614. Sarault reached the podium by 0.222 seconds. Ariana Fontana of Italy finished in fourth place with a time of 1:28.745.

Sarault’s first medal of the 2026 Olympic Winter Games came in the mixed 2000 metre relay (silver). Her second medal came in the women’s 500 metres (bronze).

It has been quite the Olympic Winter Games for the Netherlands in short track speed skating as they have won four gold medals to date. Velzeboer and Jens van ‘T Wout have two gold medals each.

Sarault has two more Olympic medal opportunities. They are in the women’s 3000 metre relay on Wednesday and the women’s 1500 metres on Friday.

This was Canada’s 10th medal of the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. They have now won one gold medal, four silver medals and five bronze medals. That is 11th place in the overall medal standings.
