Edmonton Oilers captain and center Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario recorded his 13th career National Hockey League hat trick on Thursday as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 6-5. It was McDavid’s second three-goal game of the season as he also scored thrice in a 5-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks on October 12. McDavid is the only Canadian player to have a hat trick this season and he has accomplished it twice.

McDavid scored his first goal at the 18 second mark of the second period from Evan Bouchard of Oakville, Ontario and Brett Kulak of Edmonton, Alberta which tied the game at two. He then scored his second goal on the power-play from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby, British Columbia and Leon Draisaitl at 8:28 of the second period, which tied the game at three. Then at 10:16 of the third period, McDavid put the Oilers up 5-4 on the power-play from Bouchard and Nugent-Hopkins.

The Oilers got their other goals from Zach Hyman of Toronto, Ontario, Nugent-Hopkins and Leon Draisaitl. McDavid had a fourth point as he assisted on Hyman’s goal.

McDavid was one of four Canadians with a multi-point game. Nugent-Hopkins had one goal and two assists for three points. Evander Kane of Vancouver, British Columbia and Bouchard each had two assists.

On the season, McDavid now has eight goals and seven assists for 15 points. He is a +2 with four penalty minutes, seven power-play points, one game-winning goal, 29 shots on goal, 43 faceoff wins, three blocked shots, 10 hits, three takeaways, and nine giveaways. McDavid leads the NHL in goals (eight), power-play points (five), and points (15).
