Connor Bedard records first NHL hat trick

Chicago Blackhawks centre Connor Bedard of North Vancouver, British Columbia recorded his first National Hockey League hat trick on Tuesday. He accomplished the feat in a 7-3 Blackhawks win over the Ottawa Senators.

Bedard had one goal in each period. His first goal put the Blackhawks up 3-0 with two minutes and seven seconds left in the first period. Andre Burakovsky and Frank Nazar had the assists. Bedard then put the Blackhawks up 4-0 at 2:58 of the second period with a game-winning goal. Defensemen Matt Grzelcyk and Artyom Levshunov had the assists. Bedard’s hat trick then came at 3:46 of the third period. Ryan Greene of Paradise, Newfoundland had the lone assist.

In the Chicago win, Bedard was one of three Canadians to score on the Blackhawks. The other two were defenseman Louis Crevier of Quebec City, Quebec and Colton Dach of St. Albert, Alberta. Crevier also had a multi-point game as he had one goal and one assist for two points.

In 2024-25, Bedard has six goals and six assists for 12 points in 10 games. He is a +4 with 10 penalty minutes, three power-play points, one game-winning goal, 30 shots on goal, 37 faceoff wins, three blocked shots, five hits, five takeaways, and 13 giveaways.

With the win, the Blackhawks improved to a record of five wins, three regulation losses, and two losses in extra time. They have 12 points and are in eighth place in the Western Conference.
