
Christopher Morales Williams of Vaughn, Ontario won the gold medal on Saturday in the men’s 400 metres at the 2026 World Indoor Athletics Championships in Torun, Poland. It was one of two medals won by Canada at the 2026 World Indoor Athletics Championships. Sarah Mitton of Liverpool, Nova Scotia won the silver medal in the women’s shot put.
Morales Williams posted a championship record time of 44.76 seconds. Khaleb McRae of the United States won the silver medal with a time of 45.03 seconds. Jereem Richards of Trinidad and Tobago won the bronze medal with a time of 45.39 seconds. Morales Williams reached the podium by 0.79 seconds. Chris Robinson of the United States finished in fourth place with a time of 45.55 seconds.
Mitton had a throw of 19.78 metres on Friday. Chase Jackson of the United States won the gold medal with a throw of 20.14 metres. Axelina Johansson of Sweden won the bronze medal with a throw of 19.75 metres. Mitton reached the podium by 0.15 metres. Jessica Schilder of the Netherlands finished in fourth place with a throw of 19.63 metres.
This was Mitton’s third career medal at the World Indoor Athletics Championships. She previously won the gold medal in 2024 in Glasgow, Scotland and then again in 2025 in Nanjing, China.
