The Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame announced its inductees for 2025 over the past week and two Canadian Olympic gold medalists were honoured. They were Canadian Olympic gold medalists Christine Sinclair of Burnaby, British Columbia, and Kevin Martin of Killam, Alberta.

Sinclair won a gold medal for Canada in women’s soccer at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. She is best known for her scoring ability. Sinclair’s 190 goals are the most goals ever by a women’s soccer player. She has six more goals than Abby Wambach of the United States who is second on the list with 184 goals.

Martin skipped Canada to an Olympic gold medal in men’s curling at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. He also skipped Canada to a gold medal at the 2008 World Men’s Curling Championships in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Five more Canadians are being honoured this year. They are alpine skier Erik Guay of Montreal, Quebec, hockey coach Ted Nolan of Garden River First Nation, Ontario, wheelchair racer and wheelchair basketball player Michelle Stillwell of Winnipeg, Manitoba, softball player Darren Zack of Garden River, and Canadian Tire Jumpstart founder Martha Billes of Toronto, Ontario.

Guay’s first World Championship gold medal came in the men’s downhill in 2011 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, and his second gold medal came in the men’s super giant slalom in 2013 in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Stillwell won six gold medals at the Paralympic Games (women’s wheelchair basketball at the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney, the women’s 100 metres and 200 metres at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, the women’s 200 metres at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, and the women’s 100 metres and 400 metres at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro). Nolan won the 1997 Jack Adams Award while coaching the Buffalo Sabres, and Zack won a gold medal at the 1992 World Men’s Softball Championships in Manila, Philippines.
