Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard of Montreal, Quebec won the silver medal on Monday at the 2025 World Judo Championships in Budapest, Hungary. This was Beauchemin-Pinard’s second medal at the World Judo Championships as she won the silver medal in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in 2022. Both silver medals came in the women’s 63 kilogram weight class. Beauchemin-Pinard’s Olympic bronze medal came in the women’s 63 kilogram weight class at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021.

This is Canada’s only medal at the 2025 World Judo Championships to date. The gold medal in the women’s 63 kilogram weight class went to Haruka Kaju of Japan. Boldyn Gankhaich of Mongolia and Laura Fazliu of Kosovo won the bronze medal.

Beauchemin-Pinard competed in Pool C. After getting a first round bye, she beat Jasmine Martin of South Africa in the second round, Kaja Kajzer of Slovenia in the round of 16, Lkhagvatogoogiin Enkhriilen of Mongolia in the quarterfinals, and Rafaela Silva of Brazil in the semifinals, before losing to Kaju in the final.

The silver medal will give Beauchemin-Minard confidence as she prepares for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. At the 30 years of age, Beauchemin-Minard is still a high performance judokan. The 2025 World Judo Championships will continue until Friday.
