Canadian tennis legend Milos Raonic retires at age 35

Milos Raonic of Thornill, Ontario has retired from professional tennis at age 35 according to the Associated Press on Sunday.  Raonic was ranked as high as third in the world, and is best known for reaching the 2016 Wimbledon final where he lost 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 to Andy Murray of Great Britain.

Raonic had one of the best serves in tennis history. He has 8445 aces (ninth all-time) and won 91% of his service games (third all-time). Ivo Karlovic of Croatia is first on the list at 92%, and John Isner of the United States is second on the list at 91.8%.

Throughout his ATP career, Raonic won eight ATP singles titles. The first came at the 2011 Pacific Coast Championships in San Jose, California (beat Fernando Verdasco of Spain the final, 7-6, 7-6). That was followed by the 2012 Chennai Open in India (beat Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia in the final, 6-7, 7-6), the 2012 Pacific Coast Championship (beat Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the final, 7-6, 6-2), the 2013 Pacific Coast Championships (beat Tommy Haas of Germany in the final, 6-4, 6-3), the 2013 Thailand Open (beat Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic in the final, 7-6, 6-3), the 2014 Washington Open (beat fellow Canadian Vasek Pospisil of Vernon, British Columbia in the final, 6-1, 6-4), the 2015 St. Petersburg Open (beat Joao Sousa of Portugal in the final, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3), and the 2016 Brisbane International (beat Roger Federer of Switzerland in the final, 6-4, 6-4).

Raonic also won two Lionel Conacher awards for Canadian male athlete of the year. The first came in 2013 and the second came in 2014.
